Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy
Experience evidence-based treatment for depression, anxiety, and PTSD tailored specifically to your needs. We provide personalized care for treatment-resistant conditions in a clinical environment designed for your safety and comfort.
The Benefits of Ketamine-Assisted Treatment
If you have been dealing with depression, anxiety, PTSD or other mental health conditions and have never found relief through any standard treatments, you are not alone and know that there is still hope. Ketamine therapy is one of the most exciting breakthroughs in modern mental healthcare to come along in decades, offering a lifeline where all treatments have failed.

Experience Rapid relief
Unlike standard antidepressants, Ketamine works on a different neurochemical pathway. Many of our patients have noticed meaningful symptom improvement within hours to days after their first ketamine session. This rapid onset can be particularly useful when you are in acute distress or have been waiting too long for relief.

Reclaiming your life
Ketamine can drastically reduce symptoms of depression, anxiety, and PTSD, helping you reconnect with the people and passions that make your life meaningful. Patients often report feeling more present, more hopeful and more capable of engaging fully in their lives.

Clinical Safety & Comfort
Every ketamine treatment here at Houston Mind and Brain is professionally and safely administered in our private, comfortable clinic. Your body vitals are constantly monitored, and we support you through the entire treatment to make certain it is safe and you have a calm experience.
Our Ketamine Treatment Options
We have two different ketamine options that allow us to make your treatment about you based on your specific needs, preferences, and insurance coverage.
Intranasal Racemic Ketamine
Flexible dosing. Personalized care. Needle-free treatment.
If you have been seeking a ketamine treatment that is tailored to meet your needs, this is the best option. At Houston Mind and Brain, we use intranasal racemic ketamine because this method allows us the flexibility to truly personalize your care. Unlike fixed-dose treatments, which are one-size-fits-all in nature, our method gives us the flexibility to make subtle yet precise adjustments of your dosage in real time. Every decision is based on how well you are responding, your comfort level, and your specific therapeutic goals.
It is not only about administering medication, but it is about optimizing every single session to ensure you get the most effective and comfortable path to healing.
Ketamine Session: $300 per session
We believe in transparency. Because ketamine for psychiatric use currently is "off label," most insurance companies do not yet cover the actual cost of the treatment. However, many of our patients find that the flexibility, rapid relief, and individualized attention they receive are well worth the investment in their mental health.
Although we do not directly bill insurance for ketamine sessions, we are happy to provide you with documentation, or "superbills," which will assist you in filing for out-of-network reimbursement if your plan allows for such.
Guided Psychotherapy
While ketamine can open the door to profound insights, but walking through that door is easier with a guide. We encourage you to enrich your recovery by adding a Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) session during or shortly after your treatment. KAP is far more than traditional talk therapy, KAP is specialized integration work.
During the psychotherapy sessions, our therapist will help you delve into the profound thoughts and emotions that arise during your treatment and help you apply those insights meaningfully to your life. For many patients, this integration step is the key to transforming temporary relief into lasting, life-changing progress
Spravato® (Esketamine)
Spravato® is the FDA-approved intranasal esketamine that is indicated specifically for use in treatment-resistant depression and depressive symptoms in adults with major depressive disorder with acute suicidal ideation or behavior. Because of its FDA approval, Spravato® may be covered for qualifying patients by insurance, potentially making ketamine therapy more accessible if cost is an issue.
Spravato® is available in two fixed doses; this reduces the ability to personalize dosage, compared with racemic ketamine, but it may be an excellent option if you want to use your insurance benefits and meet clinical criteria for coverage.
Not Sure If Ketamine Therapy Is Right for You?

Insurance & Payment
Our clinic accepts insurance for covered services, and our team helps you navigate the financial details.
- Intranasal racemic ketamine: Off-label use, usually self-pay at $300 per appointment.
- Spravato® (esketamine): FDA-approved and may be covered by your insurance, depending on your plan and history of prior treatments.
If your services are out-of-network, we’ll provide detailed documentation (superbills) for potential reimbursement. We can also help verify your benefits before you start treatment.

What to Expect in Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy?
At Houston Mind and Brain, your safety comes first, and we will be following a thoughtful, step-by-step approach to your ketamine treatment, designed to incorporate the best possible advancements in treatment.
Comprehensive Consultation
Primarily, we begin with an extensive medical and psychiatric evaluation in which we discuss your medical health history, the medications you are currently taking, treatments you have received in the past, and your personal goals. With this, we can safely determine the medical contraindications, if any, and formulate a custom treatment plan tailored to your needs.
The Treatment Experience
On your treatment days, you will be welcomed into a serene, private treatment room. Once you have settled in and feel calm and relaxed, you will receive the intranasal dose. You will be fully supervised and supported by our friendly staff, who will continually monitor your vitals. Some patients will be calm and introspective, while others will have a mild dissociative experience. We will make sure to keep you comfortable and look after your safety.
Assisted Psychotherapy
What is special about Ketamine Assisted Psychotherapy is the combination of both therapy and medicine. We provide guided psychotherapy in the dosing session or soon after. This moment is ideal as medicine can unlock new perspectives. Your therapist will support your exploration of these insights, help you process the emotions that will come up, and help you connect the dots in a way that will lead to significant changes in your behavior.
Integration & Growth
While the medicine may be temporary and your next phase of healing is ongoing. With Integration psychotherapy for your follow ups, we help you use the insights related to your treatment in your day-to-day life. These will focus on documenting material progress, changes in your emotions, and introducing new methods to keep your achievements based in solid reinforcement. This creates a support system to help you move on from your temporary healing to a more permanent state of healing.

Frequently Asked Questions about KAP
Most patients benefit from at least 4 sessions to start, as ketamine often has a cumulative effect meaning benefits build over time. Some patients need more sessions, others fewer. During your initial consultation and throughout treatment process, your provider will work with you to determine optimal frequency and duration for your individual situation. Many patients begin with more frequent sessions (like twice a week) and then space them out as their symptoms improve.
Great question! Intranasal racemic ketamine allows for flexible, personalized dosing that can be adjusted based on your individual response and needs. However, because it’s used off-label for mental health treatment, it’s typically self-pay.
Unlike Spravato® (esketamine) is FDA-approved specifically for treatment-resistant depression and may thus be covered by insurance if you qualify. The trade-off is that Spravato® comes in only two fixed doses, limiting our ability to customize. Both are effective; the best choice depends on your priorities regarding customization versus insurance coverage.
Simple answer: no needles, and it is just as effective. The “racemic” medication we use intranasally is the same stuff used in IV ketamine, it is just delivered differently. IV ketamine gives faster onset and more precise control, but it requires an IV line and longer monitoring. Our intranasal option is completely needle-free, still closely monitored, and gives you the same therapeutic benefits with a slightly gentler onset and shorter visit. We offer both intranasal racemic ketamine and Spravato® to give you effective, needle-free choices.
Like with any medication, ketamine has a variety of potential side effects, most of which are mild and transient. Common side effects during treatment include a sense of dissociation, or feeling separated from your body or surroundings mild dizziness, nausea, or temporary increases in blood pressure and heart rate. Some patients also report perceptual changes, such as altered sense of time or mild visual effects.
The good news is that all patients are carefully monitored during treatment, and these effects usually resolve within an hour or two following your session. We will discuss your medical history at the time of your consultation to make sure ketamine is safe for you, and we will be with you during the treatment to make any uncomfortable effects manageable.
Yes, our clinic does take insurance for those services that are covered under your plan. The specifics of coverage regarding ketamine therapy depend on which option you select:
Intranasal racemic ketamine is usually self-pay because most insurance companies do not cover the off-label use of ketamine for psychiatric illnesses.
Spravato® (esketamine) is FDA-approved. Your insurance may cover this if you meet the clinical criteria, including having a plan that includes this benefit. Insurers each have slightly different requirements for coverage but typically require documentation that you have tried other antidepressants without sufficient benefit.
We are happy to verify your benefits prior to initiating treatment and provide documentation for any out-of-network claims you would like to submit for possible reimbursement.
Ideal candidates are adults experiencing depression, anxiety, PTSD, or treatment-resistant mental health symptoms who haven’t found adequate relief with standard treatments. You might be a good candidate if:
- You have tried multiple antidepressants or other treatments without sufficient improvement
- You are experiencing significant impairment in your daily functioning
- You are looking for a treatment that works more rapidly than traditional options
- You are medically healthy enough for ketamine therapy (determined during screening)
A medical screening is required before beginning treatment to ensure your safety. Some medical conditions or medications may make ketamine inappropriate, which is why the consultation process is so important.
