Conditions We Treat

Depression & Anxiety: Symptoms & Treatment

Depression & Anxiety are two of the most common mental health disorders in the United states. While they can be similar in some ways and sometimes can even coincide, it’s important to realize the key differences between the two.

Depression

Depression is a severe illness that stems from chemical imbalances and neurological dysfunction in your brain. Depression is also growing to be one of the most common mental health disorders in the United States. There are symptoms that are common in depression:

  • Feelings of intense sadness, hopelessness, or guilt
  • Changes in appetite
  • Changes in sleep habits
  • Fatigue
  • Loss of interest in hobbies or friends
  • Trouble concentrating or making decisions
  • Suicidal thoughts

Houston Mind and Brain is one of the premier depression treatment centers in Houston, able to treat depression and its symptoms from multiple angles such as medication, Spravato® and our specialty, Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation Therapy (TMS).

Anxiety

Stress and anxiety are normal emotions that play a role in helping you avoid danger throughout your life. However, anxiety disorders cause intense feelings of fear or nervousness about situations or objects that are usually benign. For example, if you have generalized anxiety disorder, you may have anxious feelings about:

  • Job responsibilities
  • Family health
  • Schoolwork
  • Day-to-day chores or appointments
  • Daily driving

At Houston Mind and Brain, we provide 45-60 minute consultations with Dr. Cho, Inger Daniels, or Jide Azie. We can provide the traditional route of treatment via medication or recommendations for therapists that we know.

We encourage you to take our GAD-7 questionnaire if you relate to any of the anxiety symptoms above.
